Who are Upper Moon 6? All Upper Moon Demons Ranked from Weakest to Strongest

In a world where katanas are the most reliable means of self-defense, encountering a demon from the 12 Kizuki is undeniably terrifying. This organization consists of the 12 most powerful demons directly under the command of the demon kingpin, Muzan Kibutsuji. Despite their overwhelming strength, the organization is split into two groups: the upper six moons and the lower six moons. The Lower Moons are not a concern as they have been devoured by Muzan before they could make an impact. However, the Six Upper Moon Demons, who have plagued the Hashiras for centuries, are a perpetual problem that we have ranked.

Around 113 years ago, Gyutaro witnessed the demise of the last Upper Moon as a showcase of their formidable power. In sharp contrast, the Lower Moon demons were constantly replaced due to their inferiority. Recognizing the inefficiency of the Lower Moons, Muzan made the decision to eliminate them all and rely solely on the might of the Upper Moons to annihilate the Demon Slayer Corps. It should be noted, however, that not all the Upper Moons possessed equal strength; some were skilled in breathing techniques and even surpassed the prowess of Hashiras in this regard.

9. Upper Moon 6 Daki

Daki, despite her status as Upper Moon 6, proved to be no match for Sound Hashira Tengen Uzui. He effortlessly decapitated her, with even Inosuke managing to behead her using a damaged sword. It’s unlikely that Daki would have risen to the rank of Upper Moon without the aid of Gyutaro. Following their demise, Muzan acknowledged Daki as the obstacle that led to the first Upper Moon’s death in over a century, after their defeat.

However, it must be acknowledged that eliminating seven Hashiras during her lifetime is a significant achievement that establishes her value. She possesses the ability to transform her physical form into an unbreakable Obi, impervious to even the most formidable nichirin swords. Furthermore, her invincibility is heightened by the fact that decapitation alone cannot defeat her. Through a psychic bond with her brother, Gyutaro, they can only be vanquished if both of their heads are severed simultaneously.

8. Upper Moon 6 Kaigaku

During the Hashira training arc, Gyutaro and Daki were replaced by Kaigaiku, also known as Upper Moon 6. Kaigaiku had previously served as Zenitsu’s senior under Jigoro Kuwajima, the former Thunder Hashira. Despite being more skilled than Zenitsu in every aspect, Kaigaiku resented him for being their teacher’s favorite. His anger intensified when he discovered that Grandpa Jigoro planned to appoint both of them as his successors. As time passed, this deep-seated hatred grew until he crossed paths with Kokushibo, the formidable Upper Moon 1, who offered him the chance to become a demon.

Upper Moon 6 Kaigaku

He never had any regrets about transforming into a demon as he always craved the recognition he believed he was lacking. To make matters worse, his desire for power transformed into an unquenchable thirst for human blood, propelling him to rise swiftly through the ranks of demons. With his thunder breath ability, he surpassed Daki in strength without a doubt. By ingeniously merging his electrokinetic Blood Demon Art with thunder breathing, he achieved a level of skill that no one else could have fathomed. If only he had diligently mastered the initial form of Thunder breathing, he would not have been defeated by Zenitsu.

7. Upper Moon 6 Gyutaro

Gyutaro, the merciless demon, resided in the shadows of the Entertainment District, faithfully protecting Daki like an unwavering pillar. Throughout his demonic existence, he ended the lives of nearly 15 Hashira, ultimately leading to Tengen Uzui’s premature retirement. As a human, he faced constant disdain and hatred simply for his existence. However, his resilience reached its breaking point when the cruel world cruelly snatched away his beloved sister. A samurai, infuriated by Daki’s act of stabbing his eye with a comb, mercilessly burned her alive. It was in this vulnerable state that Doma discovered Gyutaro, his sister barely clinging to life, and transformed them both into demons.

Upper Moon 6 Gyutaro

Gyutaro wielded a lethal pair of sickles as his weapons, utilizing his Blood Demon Art of Flying Blood Sickles to propel them in various directions. What made them even more dangerous was that they were coated in a potent poison capable of causing death with the faintest of cuts. Even Tengen, with his body resistant to poisons, began to experience a gradual decrease in speed as the battle wore on.

6. Upper Moon 5 Gyokko

Gyokko, the enigmatic demon, possesses an utterly peculiar visage and remains shrouded in mystery. He launched a formidable assault on the Swordsmith village, nearly obliterating it entirely. His exceptional skill in teleportation rendered him exceedingly elusive. Fuelled by an unwavering fixation on fish, he commanded demonic creatures resembling aquatic life and unleashed relentless barrages of spine-projecting fish. Gyokko’s malevolence reached its zenith when he ensnared Muichiro Tokito, the Mist Hashira, within a watery prison, nearly suffocating him to the brink of death.

5. Upper Moon 4 Nakime

Nakime, the demon responsible for creating the Infinity Castle, played a crucial role in granting the demons an advantage during the decisive battle. Having spent a considerable amount of time by Muzan’s side, she took over as Upper Moon Four after Hantengu’s demise. Renowned for her extraordinary power to manipulate her surroundings, Nakime proved to be an exasperating adversary. She effortlessly held off two formidable Hashiras, making it appear effortless. However, her vulnerability lies in her lack of physical strength and endurance.

4. Upper Moon 4 Hantengu

Hantengu, the original Upper Moon 4, along with Gyokko, led the raid on the Swordsmith village. At first, he appeared to be weak, but he turned out to be the more troublesome adversary. His unique ability is to split into different demons after being cut. Unfortunately, the demon slayers were slow to recognize his powers and continued to slice at the demons, only to find themselves surrounded by four more. The most frustrating part is that even beheading them wouldn’t kill them, as their actual bodies were elsewhere. Thanks to Tanjiro’s heightened sense of smell, he successfully detected Hantengu’s sixth body, where his life force resided.

3. Upper Moon 3 Akaza

Akaza, the formidable demon, was responsible for the brutal demise of Flame Hashira Kyojirou Rengoku. However, unbeknownst to us, we would later find ourselves grieving for this very same demon in the series. During his youth as a mortal, Akaza resorted to thievery to fund his father’s medical expenses. Regrettably, his father eventually succumbed to the overwhelming guilt of living off ill-gotten gains and took his own life. Akaza endeavored to forge a fresh start with his master and her daughter, Koyuki, but tragically, even that was cruelly snatched away from him.

Upper Moon 3 Akaza

Akaza developed a deep psychological desire to become stronger and protect those dear to him. Prior to meeting Muzan, he had already gained a reputation as a demon for ruthlessly killing people with his bare hands. The process of demonification only fueled his hatred, erasing any remnants of his humanity. His remarkable reflexes were attributed to his ability to sense an individual’s fighting spirit. Even after losing his head, he remained steadfast, and Tomioka and Tanjiro would not have been able to overcome him if he hadn’t chosen to sacrifice himself.

2. Upper Moon 2 Doma

We have no regrets for Doma, the demon who instilled no remorse in any of us. He was a heartless maniac who took pleasure in devouring his victims, particularly young females. Although he maintained an outwardly polite demeanor in conversation, his aggression escalated significantly during battles. In fact, he boldly declared that even someone as formidable as Akaza would stand no chance against him in a fair fight.

Upper Moon 2 Doma

Doma demonstrates an overwhelming lack of empathy, having served as the god’s messenger at a temple for years while relentlessly preying on his female devotees. His Blood Demon technique possesses a remarkable ability to freeze anything in its path, with the additional capability to emit frigid air that hinders breathing. In dire circumstances, he can summon a colossal Bodhisattva statue capable of freezing all that crosses its path. Ultimately, it was Shinobu’s poisons that enabled Kanao and Inosuke to successfully eliminate him.

1. Upper Moon 1 Kokushibo

Kokushibo posed as the final obstacle for the Hashiras in their quest to confront Muzan. Referred to as the demon Muzan trusted the most, Kokushibo was once a member of the demon slayer corps during the Senkgoku era and the brother of Yoriichi Tsugikuni, the original practitioner of Sun breathing. From a young age, Kokushibo resented his brother’s superiority and eventually left his family to join the demon slayer corps, aspiring to surpass Yoriichi. However, upon discovering the Demon slayer mark, he realized his time was limited and made the decision to become a demon in order to extend his life and perfect his Moon breathing technique.

Upper Moon 1 Kokushibo

Throughout his centuries of existence, he diligently mastered sixteen variations of Moon breathing techniques and seamlessly incorporated them with his Blood Demon skill of launching moon-like projectiles. Additionally, his katana was uniquely crafted from his very own flesh, enabling him to elongate it at will. However, despite possessing an array of remarkable abilities, he was ultimately overwhelmed by the flames of retribution ignited by Yoriichi numerous centuries ago. In his final moments, he painfully recognized the futility of his existence, realizing that he would never attain the level of perfection achieved by his brother.
