Howard Hamlin In Better Call Saul Season 6 Episode 7

In Season 6 of Better Call Saul, Jimmy and Kim take drastic measures to resolve the Sandpiper Crossing case and secure the $2 million intended for Jimmy. Their plan involves tarnishing Howard’s reputation by manipulating evidence, such as dilating his pupils artificially, planting drugs in his locker, and falsely accusing him of being a drug addict.

The plan proves to be a success, prompting Jimmy to visit Kim at her apartment for a discussion. However, after some time, an enraged Howard Hamlin storms into the apartment to offer begrudging congratulations to the pair for tarnishing his reputation. Additionally, he vows to ensure they face dire consequences and endure a living nightmare.

Lalo, completely oblivious to Gus’ scheme, unexpectedly shows up at Kim’s apartment, causing the candle on the table to flicker. Despite Kim and Jimmy’s request for Howard to leave, he disregards it and urges Lalo to seek better legal representation.

Lalo swiftly draws his gun and fires a fatal shot, causing Howard’s blood to splatter across Kim’s apartment. Undeterred, Lalo proceeds to resume his conversation with the lawyers. This heart-wrenching event leaves the audience anxiously anticipating the forthcoming half of the season.

Why Did Lalo Kill Howard In Better Call Saul?

There are numerous factors that drive Lalo to contemplate killing Howard in Better Call Saul. Howard was a witness to the events that unfolded at Kim’s apartment, and he became aware of their scheme. Consequently, Lalo perceived it as exceedingly dangerous to allow him to remain alive.

Lalo Salamanca expanded his family’s drug enterprise, and in the fifth season, Jimmy served as his legal representative, successfully securing bail for him. This led to Jimmy gaining recognition as “Salamanca’s Guy.” As time went on, both Kim and Jimmy found themselves increasingly susceptible to Lalo’s dominance.

Therefore, it can be inferred that Lalo murdered Howard in order to demonstrate his dominance to Jimmy and Kim. Additionally, Lalo’s unexpected return in the seventh episode indicates that he had been presumed dead. Consequently, it is possible that Lalo wanted to prevent Howard from revealing any incriminating information about him.

Lalo’s ego became the third motive behind the murder when Howard playfully suggested that he should consider hiring better lawyers instead of leaving the apartment as recommended. The remark seemingly wounded Lalo’s pride.

In their quest to tarnish Howard’s reputation, Jimmy and Kim inadvertently evoke sympathy from the viewers in the final episode. Their ill-conceived plan takes a darker turn, leading to unforeseen consequences.

After Howard’s Death

Howard made the unfortunate error of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. To conceal his murder, the perpetrators stage it as a suicide by drowning. Under the direction of Mike, his associates remove Howard’s lifeless body from Kim’s residence, place his jaguar on a beach in a different state, and leave his shoes buried in the sand. This strategic plan aims to deceive the authorities into believing that Howard’s body remains adrift in the ocean.

Mike instructs Jimmy and Kim to maintain silence about the murder and to perpetuate the false notion that Howard is battling substance abuse. Initially, Howard was an upright and esteemed individual in the series, but as time passed, his behavior grew increasingly aggressive. Consequently, people would naturally attribute his demise to suicide, given the tarnished perception of Howard.

Howard was completely oblivious to his misfortune, unaware of the tragic events unfolding around him. The viewers bore witness to the immense fear that consumed Jimmy and Kim in the aftermath of the murder. Surprisingly, Lalo proved to be even more merciless compared to Jimmy, leaving the viewers shocked. Howard’s untimely demise deeply affected numerous fans, leaving them in mourning.

During the eighth episode, Lalo intends to bring Jimmy along to assassinate Gus. However, Jimmy makes the decision to prioritize Kim’s safety and sends her instead. As Lalo approaches Gus, he unexpectedly sustains gunshot wounds. Eventually, Lalo and Howard’s bodies are discreetly buried by Mike’s men within Gus’ underground laboratory.
