In October 2021, it was revealed that Jake Gyllenhaal would be co-writing the screenplay for Guy Ritchie’s upcoming untitled film. In January 2022, STXfilms came on board to co-finance and handle distribution, while Amazon Prime Video secured international distribution rights and U.S. post-theatrical streaming rights.
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and United Artists Releasing joined forces to release the film, initially referred to as “The Interpreter,” as part of their collaborative project.
Filming for the movie commenced in Alicante, Spain in February 2022, with cast members Alexander Ludwig, Dar Salim, Antony Starr, Bobby Schofield, Sean Sagar, Jason Wong, Emily Beecham, and Christian Ochoa joining the project. However, in a subsequent interview, Ritchie disclosed that the title was altered to “The Covenant” in December 2022 to avoid confusion with a prior film of the same name. Consequently, the official title of the movie was modified to “Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant” for clear distinction.
