Netflix premiered the series “Girls Incarcerated: Young And Locked Up,” which chronicles the experiences of teenage inmates at the La Porte Juvenile Correctional Facility in Indiana. This innovative concept garnered significant attention, as viewers empathized with certain girls who seemed to have been treated unfairly by the system. Many of these young inmates were determined to improve themselves and leave their days behind bars firmly in the past.

The portrayal of young girl inmates and their personal histories in this documentary series is both unique and captivating for audiences. It showcases the journey of some inmates who successfully move on from their time in prison, while others struggle to do so. Created by Nick Rigg and David George, the series sheds light on the flaws within the justice system and the lasting impacts it has.

On June 21, 2019, the highly anticipated second season made its debut, captivating the audience and evoking strong emotions as it delved into the flaws of the system. It left viewers pondering and questioning the current state of affairs, pushing them to demand improvements for the betterment of future generations. The second season chronicled the individual journeys of seven inmates: Jesse Rose, Tiffany Kristler, Zarriah Thomas, Hannah Aberegg, Carisa Hale, Carli Imel, and Harley Moody.

The series revolved around young girls who found themselves in juvenile correction centers as a result of a flawed system. Many of these girls were imprisoned for serious offenses such as robbery, murder, auto theft, and more. Their path towards transforming into productive members of society was deeply touching for the audience. This series showcased the girls’ final opportunity to turn their lives around before being confined to the adult center.

The captivating journey of the young inmate girls had viewers hooked on the series, and it definitely delivered. While the series provided closure on the girls’ current whereabouts, it left viewers craving for more. Today, their curiosity about the inmates’ locations will finally be appeased.

Jesse Rose

At the age of 16, Jesse made an appearance on the series, just three months away from her scheduled release. Among the girls, she was the least favored inmate. Known for her fiery temperament and constant search for drama, Jesse’s attitude and lack of proper behavior in public earned her a reputation among the other inmates. She found herself friendless in the center, and several of the other featured inmates on the series openly expressed their dislike for her, making her the most disliked individual in the facility.

Jesse possessed an unwavering belief in her abilities and was always prepared to confront anyone, anytime. Her childhood was marked by trauma as her father was incarcerated before she reached the age of seven, leading her to channel her anger towards her mother. Throughout the series, Jesse acknowledged her impending incarceration. Following her father’s imprisonment, she fell in with a negative group and faced charges related to drug possession, auto theft, and robbery. Additionally, Jesse candidly shared her experience of assaulting a teacher prior to her enrollment in the center.

Jesses admitted to following the rules to get out of the center, and she won’t change, most probably. With the background out of the way, Jesse was released from the juvenile center and applied to an Ivy Tech Community College. Jesse got accepted into the college, and she did go there for a while. As of recently, Jesse is again in the system for unknown charges. The news of her being a part of the system was shared by Chase, her cousin, through Instagram. Since her release from the juvenile center, Jesse hasn’t been active on social media.

Hannah Aberegg

At 18 years old, Hannah made her debut on the series, only three months away from her scheduled release day. Known for her lively personality, Hannah possessed a slight touch of attitude and a fiery temper. Having been arrested on seven separate occasions, Hannah’s major concern was the possibility of carrying a lifelong criminal record if she were to commit any further offenses after leaving the facility, especially since she was on the verge of turning 18. The backstory of Hannah tugged at the heartstrings of many, as she consistently had to rely solely on herself to protect and provide for her younger brother.

Hannah found herself in the group home when her mother abandoned her and her family, leaving her father consumed with work. To numb the pain of her traumatic past, Hannah turned to drugs and partying at a young age, momentarily escaping her troubles. Unfortunately, her suffering didn’t stop there. At 16, she was brutally assaulted and sexually violated by a group of individuals, pushing her to flee from the group home. With limited options, Hannah resorted to working as a sex worker, which eventually resulted in her being imprisoned for engaging in criminal mischief, assaulting a police officer, and possessing drugs.

Hannah was trying to strive to be a better person and wished to have a better relationship with her parents. With the backstory out of the way, After her release from the center, Hannah overdosed on drugs, but miraculously she survived. She saw this as a sign from God to change for the better, and she got a job at a fast food joint, and at the same time, she was working towards pursuing her degree in nursing.

In addition to being a mother to a lovely baby boy, Hannah is engaged to Dominic Brown. While she still faces challenges in staying sober, she has successfully regained her freedom as of today.

Leeaeira Stokes

Leeaeira Stokes, who was just two weeks away from her scheduled release, made an appearance on the show “at 17.” Known for her intimidating presence and short fuse, Lee had a tendency to lose her composure rapidly, frequently engaging in arguments with her fellow inmates. Her volatile nature and blunt demeanor instilled fear in others. However, it was not always this way for Leeaeira. In her early years, she enjoyed a joyous childhood with loving parents until the age of five. Unfortunately, as she entered her teenage years, troubles arose, and at the age of 13, she was diagnosed with Intermittent Personality Disorder.

During the series, Stokes and Rose were in a relationship that was often tumultuous. Whenever they had a disagreement, Stokes would either become explosively angry or end up in tears. She couldn’t help but feel like an outcast in her own family, constantly compared to her accomplished brothers while her mother seemed to have given up on her. The situation took a dark turn when Stokes, in a fit of rage, struck her father on the head with a vase during an argument. Her father, in an attempt to prevent her from fleeing, restrained her. Consequently, Stokes faced legal charges for battery and her time in La Porte led to significant personal transformation.

Moving on to her current situation, she and Rose parted ways after their time at the center came to an end. Lee, on the other hand, has successfully transformed her life and embarked on a new endeavor – running her own YouTube channel. While details about Lee’s current activities are limited, her YouTube channel serves as a testament to her personal growth and transformation.

Carisa Hale

At the age of 17, Carisa Hale made an appearance on the show, just 17 days prior to her scheduled release. She possessed a special red band privilege, reserved for inmates who demonstrated exceptional conduct and had minimal chances of attempting escape. Carisa stood out among her fellow inmates with her pleasant disposition and delightful sense of humor. Even when she was not under the influence, Carisa displayed a mature and lively personality that was both amusing and endearing. Her peers admired her for her constant cheerful demeanor and diligent work ethic.

Other inmates looked up to her, and she felt the center helped her a lot from spiraling down the dark hole. Carisa’s parents were in an on-and-off relationship, but she was close to her dad. Carisa’s life took a turn when she lost her dad at 11, and she would cry to the point she would pass out after losing her father. The loss of her father led Carisa to drugs, and she started to struggle with addiction. Carisa started believing in God and would confess to him about her problems, and this made her feel like she didn’t want this for her future. She was released in only four months due to her maturity.

Regarding her current activities, Carisa was arrested once more after her release, this time for domestic battery. However, the case did not progress, and she was granted a bond of $600. Presently, Carisa resides in Crawsforsville, leading a peaceful and sober life. She is the proud mother of a delightful four-year-old son and shares her home with her partner. Additionally, Carisa holds a full-time position at Ken’s Food, and her relationship with her mother did experience some improvement for a period of time.

Tiffany Kristler

At the age of 16, Tiffany Kristler made an appearance on the series, with just five months left until her expected release. Tiffany was skilled at putting on a facade of happiness, but deep down, she resented being told what she could or couldn’t do. Known for her rebellious nature and attitude issues, Tiffany had endured a difficult upbringing marked by constant parental conflict, which eventually led to her parents’ divorce.

Her dad spent some days in prison following the divorce, and she started hanging out with the wrong crowd. To cope with her trauma, Tiffany began taking drugs and had an 11-month daughter. Tiffany was arrested on the grounds of going on an armed robbery spree with the father of her child.

In 2018, Tiffany was discharged from the facility. She remained on parole until 2019, which concluded on a positive note for her. Presently, Tiffany has reunited with her daughter and is leading an honest life, recently welcoming another baby girl into her family. She is currently employed at Aeropostale and has successfully kept away from any legal troubles.

Arianna Davis

At the age of 16, Arianna Davis became a prominent figure in the series, just four months away from her anticipated release. Among her fellow inmates, she gained the nickname “bad and bougie,” reflecting her influential presence within the facility. Davis possessed both commendable and questionable qualities, making her a complex personality in the center. Lacking a role model, her troubled upbringing was marred by her mother’s decision to remain in an abusive relationship, leaving her traumatized.

Davis was sent to the facility for armed robbery and was released from La Porte, and she was re-committed to the center during the second season for defying her parole. She was released and got her third snit after filming the second season. There is not much information available on Davis as she has been keeping away from social media.

Carli Imel

Carli Imel, who was just 15 years old at the time, was featured in the series, with only four months remaining until her scheduled release. She had earned the nickname “small dynamite” due to her fiery temper within the facility. Surprisingly, her fellow inmates found her to be enjoyable company, making it pleasant to be around her. Imel hails from a family plagued by addiction, an issue she herself has struggled with. In fact, she revealed that she had never been on a date due to her tumultuous past. Imel’s teenage years were far from typical, as she began experimenting with marijuana at the tender age of nine and subsequently developed a fondness for its effects.

Imel started to struggle with meth addiction. She got sent to La Porte for grand theft auto, and she stated she liked the adrenaline rush from this. She didn’t have a positive influence in life and had a cousin with her in La Porte. After being released from the center, it didn’t do much for her, and her life didn’t take a turn for good.

Carli has consistently encountered numerous criminal issues. In 2021, Imel, who is a parent, was arrested for public intoxication and possession of marijuana. In 2022, Imel faced charges for domestic battery and drug possession.

Harley Moody

At the age of 17, Harley made an appearance on the series, only four months away from her anticipated release date. She happened to be Carli’s older cousin’s sister and was determined to set a positive example for her younger cousin, Imel. Unfortunately, Harley encountered a delay in her release, prolonging her stay.

Hayley has successfully transformed her life and distanced herself from any illegal activities. She currently resides in Greensburg, residing in close proximity to her family, and is employed as a cleaning technician at Mpw Industrial Services. In addition, Hayley has joyfully embraced the role of a mother to two children, whom she shares glimpses of on Instagram. With unwavering determination, she is working tirelessly to create a brighter future for her beloved family.

Zarriah Thomas

At the time the series was filmed, Zarriah held the distinction of being the youngest inmate. At the age of 14, she made an appearance in the series, with only four months remaining until her scheduled release. Zarriah possessed a delightful personality and was known for her joyful disposition. However, her involvement in a serious altercation stemmed from the emotional trauma caused by her mother’s abandonment. Sadly, Zarriah faced another arrest shortly after being released for violating her parole.

In 2020, Thomas was freed and she decided to reside with her grandmother. Following her mother’s release from prison, Zarriah began the process of reconciling with her and rebuilding their relationship. She successfully completed high school and went on to graduate from Ivy Tech Community College. Since her release from the center, she has managed to steer clear of any trouble.
